Composite
"art" consisting of multiple images masked, cut, copied, and
pasted into other images and photos, or completely "created"
from scratch in the computer art programs, is a type of artwork I have
been featuring on the AllThingsMike
website and it's assorted spinoffs since the beginning, in 1999, when
it appeared online. The first full blown "composite" website
was "The
Betty Boop Pages" in 2001, quickly followed by the
Cartoons Section of the
Cultural Blender, which features essays about the history and future
of cartooning, and the imaginative world of CGI, and also some of the
more intricate early composites, featuring copyrighted cartoon characters
from different cartoon studios hobnobbing together.
Most of my work
shows up in the
Computer Art section of the Yes,
But Is It Art? Gallery. The composites on this page were created
during the weekend of February 12th and 13th, 2005, with images obtained
from the Honda Asimo website
and other websites detailing the history and cultural significance of
robots and robotics. If there is a full size image available, clicking
on the thumbnail image will bring up the full size image in another
browser window.

| Honda's
Asimo robot gives humankind his greetings from downtown Los Angeles,
where he is about to become involved in a long string of endeavors. |
 |
| Soon
the robots will litter the landscape. Here, in a composite utilizing
the city of Monrovia, CA, from one of my photos, the robots can
be seen enjoying a lazy Saturday afternoon. Their pet dogs are Sony
Aibos, and the scooter and hybrid car are Honda products. |

"Would
you like fries with that order?" The robots will most probably
replace the workers in hazardous jobs, followed soon by the domestic
and service industry. When my roommate , who works for Honda,
mentioned to me that he has known about the Asimo for years, I
told him that they were probably be programmed to take over his
job

Since
almost all robots will be working hard all day, in the evenings
they will clutter the bars and bistros of the cities of the world,
complaining about the conditions that will later force them to
rebel and take over the planet.
